Monte Alto ISD Announces Lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools!

MONTE ALTO, TX – After an extensive and comprehensive Superintendent search process, which attracted more than 20 applicants from across the state of Texas, the Monte Alto ISD Board of Trustees are proud to announce that Dr. Isaac Rodriguez has been named the Lone Finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.


Dr. Rodriguez currently serves as the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction with the La Feria I.S.D., where he has served in this capacity since 2018. Prior to that, he served as the principal of La Feria High School for four years, where he led the high school to a met standard rating and achieved 7 out of 7 Distinction Designations three years in a row. La Feria High School was one of 400 campuses in the state to earn all possible distinctions in the accountability ratings. In addition, he served as an elementary principal at C.E. Vail Elementary, also in La Feria, for five years, where he led the campus to two years of recognized ratings and back-to-back exemplary ratings along with gold performance acknowledgments.


Dr. Rodriguez has twenty-three years of experience in public education with 3 years of central office experience. Additionally, he has fifteen years of campus administration experience and has served at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. He has also served in the districts of Harlingen and San Benito C.I.S.D. He began his career in education as a teacher at Mumford I.S.D. in 1998.


Dr. Rodriguez is a graduate of La Feria High School and later earned a B.S. in Agriculture Science from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He earned a Master of Science from Texas A&M University-College Station and a Master of Education from the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. In addition, he earned his doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in College Station. He is currently the Vice-President of the La Feria Lions Club International and a member of the Poultry Committee with the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, where he has served for eighteen years.


He is married to his wife of 24 years, Haydee Larraga - Rodriguez, who currently serves as the Director of Guidance and Counseling with the La Feria I.S.D. They have three children: Reyes, who is a Junior and a Biomedical Science Major at Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Carlos, who is a Sophomore and a Cybersecurity Major at South Texas College and Carolina, who is an eighth-grader at W.B. Green Middle School.

The search was conducted by the law firm of O’Hanlon, Demerath, & Castillo in conjunction with Dr. Abelardo Saavedra and Dr. Daniel King.


Monte Alto ISD will now enter the 21-day waiting period required by state law.
